Become an American Red Cross InstructorInstructor

Whether you want to volunteer your time to teach classes for the chapter or you are planning to teach for your company or organization, we have the instructor training to meet your needs.

Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor
This course teaches instructor candidates how to train students in Adult, Infant and Child CPR, Automated External Defibrillator and First Aid at the Lay Responder level.

The training includes three steps:
1.  Lay Responder Certification/Testing
2.  Fundamental of Instructor Training (FIT)
3.  Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor Training

To become a certified Red Cross instructor you must successfully complete all three courses.  Instructor certificates are valid for two calendar years.  Students must be 16 years of age by the end of the instructor class.

Persons who do not pass the Lay Responder Certification/Testing will not be allowed to attend the instructor course.  Instructor course fees will be refunded less a $25 administrative fee for students who fail.  Students who wish to keep basic level course materials will be charged an additional fee for purchase of materials.

Attendance at all sessions and passing a written instructor exam with a score of 80% or higher is required to successfully complete the course.  Successful completion of all three components; the Pre-Course Test, Fundamentals of Instructor Training and Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor Course in addition to a short chapter orientation authorizes you to teach all modules of the Lay Responder Program. Length: 29 hours (usually taken over four days).  Course: $140.00
