| Lifesaving Skills Are Just a Click Away American Red Cross now offers web-based training for First Aid, CPR and AED January 7, 2008 -- First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering from cardiac arrest or other medical emergency. The ability to administer First Aid or CPR during the first few minutes of a medical emergency is crucial to the survival and recovery of a victim. Many people know the importance of this type of training; however, some people’s schedules make it difficult to attend a training class. Now, people can learn how to save lives from the comfort of their own home, with an American Red Cross web-based training for First Aid, CPR and AED. The first portion of the training is completed online, so each course participant can take the training on their own schedule, from any computer (as long as it meets the minimum operating system requirements and has internet access). For the second part of the training, a Red Cross instructor conducts a skills session where participants' skills are practiced and assessed. This approach is called “blended learning.” “The Red Cross Blended Learning program is flexible and self-paced – and best of all it is available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week” says Julie Wiecken, Education and Marketing Director of the American Red Cross Mid-Missouri Chapter. Unlike training with a group, participants can learn at their own pace, allowing them to stop and review information whenever necessary to ensure that they completely understand the instruction. Participants also have the option of going through the course in an abbreviated format and “testing out” of lessons with which they may already be familiar, making it a timesaver for recertifying. Web-based training also allows participants to access training at their convenience, and can help prevent schedule conflicts with work or family responsibilities. To register for an online course or to learn more about the Blended Learning web-based training program, call (800) 359-8829 or email information@redcross-midmo.org -- or click here. # # # # The Mid-Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross serves the residents of 7 mid-Missouri counties: Boone, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Randolph and Saline. The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, almost a million volunteers and 35,000 employees helped victims of almost 75,000 disasters; taught lifesaving skills to millions; and helped U.S. service members separated from their families stay connected. Almost 4 million people gave blood through the Red Cross, the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work. |
