Mid-Missouri Chapter adds new staff members,
and expands office hours in Moberly

January 15, 2008 – To better serve the people of seven counties in central Missouri, the American Red Cross Mid-Missouri Chapter has expanded its Moberly office hours to five days a week – and has added two new people to the chapter’s staff.

“The Moberly office is an important location for us, among the seven counties we serve,” said Mike Odneal, Executive Director of the Mid-Missouri Chapter, which is based in Columbia. “Our office in Moberly is geographically well-situated to serve people in the northern portions of our chapter’s 7-county region, so we wanted to put more emphasis in the Moberly office.”

Starting January 15, the Moberly office hours will be Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 2 pm. The Red Cross office in Moberly is located at 109 N. Williams Street. Until recently, the Moberly office was open three days a week.

To help expand the Moberly office hours and to increase Red Cross services in seven central Missouri counties, two new staff member have joined the Mid-Missouri Chapter recently. They are Karen Viebrock, Emergency Services Director, and Amy Ivy, Moberly Office Manager.

Viebrock brings several years of experience to her position, having served in similar emergency roles at Red Cross chapters in Jefferson City and Springfield. Ivy has a variety of experience that will enable her to match Red Cross services to people who visit or call the Moberly office – including classes in First Aid, CPR, water safety and other similar training.

“People sometimes forget about some of the different types of services that the Red Cross provides,” said Odneal. “Lots of people know the Red Cross does blood drives, and helps after disasters and fires -- but people sometimes forget that we also provide many great health and safety classes, as well as emergency services for military families.”

Odneal added that the Mid-Missouri Chapter also welcomes additional volunteers to help serve the seven counties of Boone, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Randolph, and Saline. The chapter’s main office is located in Columbia, and Odneal said the chapter is researching additional office locations within the seven counties that the chapter serves.

The Mid-Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross serves the residents of 7 mid-Missouri counties: Boone, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Randolph and Saline.

The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, almost a million volunteers and 35,000 employees helped victims of almost 75,000 disasters; taught lifesaving skills to millions; and helped U.S. service members separated from their families stay connected. Almost 4 million people gave blood through the Red Cross, the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
